Mineral Analysis (HTMA)

What is Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)?

HTMA* is a noninvasive test that measures the levels and ratios of nutrients and toxic minerals in the hair. These minerals include copper, zinc, magnesium, potassium, and several others. The test is considered as one of the most valuable screening tools in preventative health care.

The test involves taking a sample of hair and testing the level of minerals that have collected in the cells at the root of the hair. It is more comprehensive than blood testing, as mineral levels in the blood fluctuate on a daily basis.

Why test for minerals?

Minerals are the spark plugs of life! They are important for growth, healing, and vitality. Every chemical reaction in the body utilizes minerals. They are also used in the production of hormones and molecules that your body uses on a daily basis, such as insulin and adrenaline. It is important that these minerals are in the right balance so that your body can function optimally. Every mineral and vitamin can directly or indirectly affect the balance of other vitamins and minerals. When the level of one mineral is not optimal, other nutrients in the body are not effectively utilized.

Ideally, we should be able to get all of the minerals we need from a balanced diet. Unfortunately, modern farming techniques, environmental pollutants, and the western diet impact our body’s ability to maintain a balanced nutrient status.

HTMA is the best way to test for and guide the process of optimally balancing minerals.

Benefits of Hair Mineral Testing

Hair mineral testing provides reliable data on over 35 nutrient and toxic minerals, conferring valuable data not available in routine testing. This allows for the discovery of mineral imbalances that may be affecting your health.

This test allows us to personalize treatment based on your current mineral status, and recommend dietary changes and supplements that can improve your health and wellbeing.

Interpretation of Hair Mineral Analysis

Hair mineral analysis interpretation is complex and requires an in depth understanding of how minerals interact with each other, and with how the body uses them most effectively. Dr. Madhava has completed several training courses in HTMA, with a focus on understanding the root causes and effects of mineral imbalances. The complex nature of HTMA allows Dr. Madhava to understand her patients’ nutritional status from a fundamental level, and provides the basis for personalized treatment recommendations.
